Glutamine Peptides Revealed!
STRAIGHT FROM DA TOP by Chris Johnson

Maximizing muscle gain. That's what it's all about. And that's why we're here - to help you get the most out of your diet and training. Without the support system to help your body recover, it just ain't gonna happen. So what's all this talk about glutamine being the new King of Supplements?

Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in human muscle. It actually makes up about 60 percent of the free-floating amino acid pool in skeletal muscle cells. In times of stress, like training, the body requires more of it to keep glutamine stores up.

For us trainees, there are a number of benefits to supplementing with glutamine. It has been shown to promote cell volumization - yes, one of the marked benefits associated with creatine. It's a building block for the body's most powerful anti-oxidant glutathione. Glutamine boosts anti-inflammatory cell function and increases muscle glycogen deposition. Perhaps most interesting is that it has been shown to help slow down the breakdown of muscle protein and assist in protein synthesis.

So how much is needed to achieve these benefits? Charles Poloquin suggests that you may need to take up to 40 grams of L-glutamine to get the most out of your glutamine supplementation. That's a lot of powder! But you have to remember that anywhere from 50 to 85% of oral glutamine consumption is used up by the intestines, liver, and by the immune system.

The answer to affordable (and intelligent) glutamine supplementation lies in "glutamine peptides". The difference between l-glutamine and glutamine peptides is that the latter is bonded in a chain of amino acids which allows for better transport into the blood stream and the muscles. Up to ten times better! The peptide version is also more stable in liquid (great news for those of us who mix our shakes up early in the day).

The best time to supplement with glutamine peptides is post workout with your high protein/high carb shake and with your bedtime protein shake (I also add a tablespoon of flax oil to this nighttime meal to keep the digestion slow). You'll want to take 5-10 grams of peptide to achieve maximal results.

"Ok Chris," you say, "sounds great but where can I get it?" Good news Renegaders! Before the end of this month, we'll be introducing a new line of supplements that will begin with a glutamine peptide/micronized creatine bonus pack. Best of all, the price will be close to that of regular l-glutamine! We're talking 300 grams of glutamine peptides and 300 grams of micronized creatine for under $60 (Canadian Dollars)!

Bottom line, glutamine peptides make glutamine supplementation much more efficient. And we and Renegade Nutrition are going to make it affordable!

Editor's note: Glutamine Peptides are now available!
